Dairy Business Development and Sales

This Business Development (BD) role is responsible for developing Summit Engineering and Constructions dairy construction opportunities through strategically building value for the company by identifying new business opportunities, targeting decision-makers, and creating proposals that will add value to the client’s bottom line. The BD must practice effective communication (verbal, written & non-verbal) with the willingness to engage all project stakeholders and apply critical thinking skills towards routine problem-solving. BD’s represent the company in the office and on the job site supporting the project team in the execution of the work by managing the client relationship.

BD would possess strong interpersonal skills and will provide direction to the preconstruction team while understanding deeply the flow and operations of the industry. Responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to:

Expectations and Objectives:

• Develop Summits dairy construction opportunities through contacts, community, and industry network
• Nurturing or developing relationships with keys players and vendors
• Connecting with the top decision-makers within the industry
• Own client relationships and invest deeply in their success
• Evaluate market potential
• Implementation of sales strategies to win work
• Conceptual planning and scoping of dairy and milking facilities
• Experience working on a multi-function team including sales and production
• Collaborate with external and internal resources to maximize value to producers
• Negotiate contract terms with clients and communicate with stakeholders
• Support the launch of an innovative new product as an offering, ex. QLYFT
• Attend both construction and dairy industry events and conferences
• Provide direction to the Summit marketing team for dairy market segment sales content, website updates, social media posts, sponsorships, and trade show activities

Role Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable discipline and a minimum of 5 years of experience in the Dairy Industry
  • Interpersonal Skill: the ability to work and collaborate with project stakeholders (internal & external) and field teams to ensure smooth work operations. Excellent written and oral communication skills, preferable to have conversation skills in Spanish.
  • Task & Time Management Skill: ability to be flexible and able to work well in a fast-paced environment, including high competency in handling simultaneously occurring tasks, with the ability to achieve operational objectives within set deadlines

Necessary Attributes:

  •  Possess qualities that align with Summit Culture
  • Deep knowledge and experience within the dairy industry (5+ years)
  • Have a background in agriculture or dairy production
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal
  • Self-Motivated
  • Capacity for high amounts of travel
  • Background in construction (preferred, but not required)

Physical Requirements and Work Environment: 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
